The Artist Workbook & Reader is designed to guide theater artists & practitioners through the 12-week workshops including Personal Narrative Theater, Collective Narrative, Conflict Theater and Performing Solutions. As the medium of human reconciliation, the artist needs to be constantly evaluating their own bias, perspectives, and reactions to the process. This workbook and reader will help the artist to process the Theater for Humanity experience.

Theater for Humanity begins with a series of 12 workshops designed for 14 participants: 7 formerly incarcerated persons and 7 police officers. The Participant Workbook & Reader is designed to guide formerly incarcerated persons through the process. It includes:

  1. Lectures and Skills By Session
  2. Themes and Topics for Each Session
  3. Excerpts from relevant book and articles
  4. Scenes from plays about police and community relations

Each participant will follow along, prepare for the next session and track their progress towards the goal of expressing themselves and sharing their experiences with the community they are building.

 

Theater for Humanity is led by a theater artist or practitioner who commands an understanding of a diverse theater skillset including: acting, directing and writing. The program begins with a series of 12 workshops designed for 14 participants: 7 formerly incarcerated persons and 7 police officers. These sessions are led by the theater artist or practitioner. The Workbook & Reader is designed to guide theater artists & practitioners through the process. It includes:

  4. Scenes from plays about police and community relations

The theater artist or practitioner will lead and engage in a manner that gradually allows the participants to take over the process when the workshops are complete.
